TWO work parties this week! Taking advantage of the great weather…

Hi all –

Given that the weather is supposed to be SPLENDID this coming week, I figure we ought to get two more Landscaping work parties happening.  Here they are:

Wednesday, September 30, 2020 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.:  Putting in shrubs (and digging some more holes, carefully) along the entrance way

Lots of work has been happening to prepare for planting the shrubs I was able to get at this time of year, along our entrance way.  To finish what we will do this Fall, a few more holes need to be dug (carefully! to avoid the hidden water lines and other stuff we have discovered in the border dirt…).  Then the holes will all be filled with a mix of fish compost and dirt and bone meal and plant food…. and then the shrubs that we have can then be planted!  YAY!!   No need to RSVP, just show up on Wednesday.  Please bring:

  • a shovel, pitch fork, or something like that
  • gardening gloves
  • a wheel barrow if you have one handy
  • and wear your finest gardening clothes, ready to get a bit grubby.

Thursday, October 1, 2020 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.:  Low-impact thinning and pruning of the bulrushes at the lower pond

Yes, the very next day, the fun continues!  Since it is supposed to be sunny and warm, we will do the wet slimy job:  thinning the bulrushes in the lower pond (the pond in the centre of the strata).

Here is the current plan (subject to change once we put it into action to see how it actually works!):

  • Ross and I will bring our canoes to slide carefully into the water, without getting our feet in the mud.
  • Someone on shore will hold the rope that attached to the end of each canoe, to keep us nose-in towards the shore as we cut.
  • Ross and I will lean over the edge of our canoes and cut off the bulrushes, and throw them up on shore.
  • Someone on shore will collect what we toss up there and put it in the strata’s utility trailer, which will be parked in front of #30.
  • And, we will probably need someone to drive the trailer to a composting centre (our car has a hitch but no trailer lights, so we cannot go on the road with it)

For this day, please wear clothing that can get wet, slimy and dirty! (Doesn’t THAT sound appealing, eh!)

THANKS in advance, to everyone who can come help on one or both days!!

Violet
