Trick or Treat?

Trick or Treat?

Let’s rejuvenate our Lighthouse Landing Estates’ (LLE) entranceway this Halloween, bring some smiles to us and our community at large by decorating it with Jack ‘O Lanterns!

Dressing up our LLE front stone wall and entranceway this Halloween with your spooky, loveable or laughable pumpkin carvings will shine a light on our special community – heck, we might even get an honourable mention in the Lighthouse Country Living magazine if we have a good enough showing!

Carve any number of pumpkins you like – even get the children and grandchildren involved – and put them on display on the stone wall or along the garden beds that line the entranceway.

Please get your carvings ready for the big reveal, which will take place at 4 pm on Thursday, October 29.  When you design your jack ‘o lantern(s), please give them some means of being lit up (candles or some form of cordless light) for the three nights of the 29, 30 and 31st.  If the weather cooperates, perhaps it will be nice enough to have a Halloween Happy Hour street party up along the entranceway (it will give you an excuse to buy some treats) to kick-off light up, with appropriate social-distancing in place, of course!  And, if the weather doesn’t cooperate that day, then maybe happy hour could be on the 30th or 31st.   Costumes or dress with a Halloween flare is encouraged, but optional – but at least masks are fashionable this year!

Here are a few guidelines:

Jack ‘O Lanterns:

  1. Should be out on display no earlier than Thursday October 29th.
  2. Can be placed on top of the stone wall at the entranceway or anywhere on the ground in the plant beds lining the main entrance, with carvings facing the road.
  3. Make sure your pumpkin is not close to anything flammable.
  4. Should be equipped each of the three nights (Oct 29-31) to be lit up at dusk. I will go out each of the evenings at dusk to light them up if you put a fresh candle in them each day.
  5. Must be removed from the entranceway by the carver on Sunday, November 1 and likely be put to rest in your compost.

Did you know:

  • Halloween this year is on a Saturday night
  • The 2nd full moon of the month, known as a “Blue Hunters’ Moon”, makes its appearance Halloween night!
  • A full moon occurs on Halloween every 19 years in some time zones, so you can expect a full Halloween moon again in 2039, 2058, 2077 and 2096. So this year is, indeed, a special one!

If you think you will be turning out a Jack ‘o lantern for our entranceway, or if you have anything to share, I’d love to hear from you, so please drop me an email!
