One more strata Work Party… this time to clear out bull rushes and more around the Lower Pond, on Thursday October 23 at 9 a.m.

Hello all –

T’is the season of landscaping work parties!

I would like to extend a BIG thank you to all the people who came out this past week to help with the FireSmart work party. Lots of people helped (including those of you who trimmed and/or pulled out your own shrubs prior to the date), and we truly got a LOT done!  The bin that was generously provided by the BowHorn Fire Department (thanks to them for that!) was put to good use and almost full – even with the help of 3 guys jumping up and down in there to compact the branches down!

This coming week, there is going to be one more work party (likely the last work party for this Fall). This will be to once again clear out bull rushes growing near some key pipes where water flows into and out of the lower pond, and also to cut out some young trees starting to grow around the pond.

This work party will be on Thursday morning, October 23, starting at 9 a.m. (and likely finished by around 11 a.m.)  We will meet by the lower pond.

We welcome anyone willing to help with this!

Adrian and I will wear the chest waders and go into the water.  Everyone else can stay on shore 🙂

The plan this year is to:

  • clear out the bull rushes to about 6 feet away from the pipe on the “left” side (standing on shore looking at the pond) of the middle pipe that is close to #30;
  • continue to clear out the bull rushes around the drainage pipe at the end of the pond close to the road; and
  • cut back trees and shrubs growing up around the pond.

Please bring, if you have these:

  • gloves to wear
  • grass clippers (we can trim back the long grass in the areas where we will be working)
  • shrub/tree loppers, or a saw, to cut trees and shrubs with
  • a strong rake
  • and … please wear clothes that you don’t mind getting a bit mucky and wet. This can be one of those kinds of jobs, eh.

Please get in touch if you have any questions – you can call or text me (Violet) at 250-327-4751, or email me at violet@violetvanhees.com

thanks!
