Update on Landscaping Improvements along the Entrance way

Yes indeed – things are happening along our entrance way!  The hog fuel mulch was removed 2 weeks ago – Yay!  And the shrubs and plants on both sides of the entrance way by Gainsberg Road have been beautifully pruned and trimmed.  Thanks to everyone who helped with those steps!

And now, we are starting on the planting of new shrubs.  Jane and Bob and I have figured out “A Plan” for what to plant where.  And yesterday, before I even put out a call for a work party, Dave and Dwight and Gordon and Karen all showed up ready to dig holes for plants… !  (What a great place we live in, eh)  So, we started digging.

Ross and I will likely be out there today some more, to remove some plants, and get things organized to continue digging and planting the shrubs that we have now.  Anyone who wants to help is welcome 🙂

I have bought the shrubs that we want, that I was able to find (selection is a bit thin right now, since it is end of season).  I will buy more in the spring when new stock is available, to complete the planting.  So, the distribution of shrubs may look a little uneven over this winter, until we are able to finish getting all the plants we want next spring.  Just wanted to explain why that will be 🙂

The black plastic bags lined up on the border are full of beautiful black organic fish compost (which Ross and I went and got from EarthBanks, by Parksville), to give the new plants lots of good nutrition and organic matter in the soil as we plant them.

I also have bone meal for all the plants, and rhodo food for the rhodos we are planting.

If need be, I will organize a work party for Wednesday morning this week to complete what we can do for now.  I will put out a post for that in a day or two, if it looks like that will be needed.

Just wanted to let y’all know what’s happening! Thanks –
