Hi all –
The plants are planted along the entrance way, and there are lots of flowers flowering out there now! And I am now organizing the “final steps” to get the entrance way improvement work done. Here is the plan:
- The weeds need to be weeded out of the entrance way borders one more time, and then
- we need to put on the top mulch, to protect the roots of all the shrubs and desired plants out there, and to reduce the enthusiasm of the weeds.
For the mulch, is I am going to order a delivery of 5 yards of “fine dark bark” mulch from DBL in Parksville. The dark colour looks good, and the fine mulch looks better than the medium. I will order 5 yards, and if that ends up being more than is needed for the entrance way, I am sure the rest can be used around the strata grounds. I will ask for it to be dropped in either 2 or 3 piles (it depends on how big the piles are): two along one side of the entrance way, and if a third pile is needed it will be at the T-junction at the end of the entrance way.
Timing: I will aim to arrange for the delivery of the dark bark mulch to come on Wednesday morning this week. So that would mean:
- I invite everyone to help with weeding the entrance way really well once more, between now and Wednesday.
- I will go out there this afternoon around 2:00, and Monday afternoon around 2:00, if anyone wants to join me. Or – feel free to go out at a time you choose. Thanks!
- Once the dark bark has arrived, people with wheelbarrows, shovels and rakes will needed to distribute it onto the borders. Yay! (I will confirm the ETA for the mulch once I have the delivery booked.)
- The plan is to place the mulch around – but not over – the lovely little moats built around most of the shrubs and plants out there along the entrance way…. the moats help contain the water for the plants!
- The plan is to put 2-3 inches deep of mulch on the borders, as this is the amount needed to do the job of keeping weed growth down.
So that’s the plan!
thanks –
Violet
