Hi Strata Residents –
As discussed a bit at the August AGM, and in our recent LLE Council meetings, to help reduce the fire hazards for our units we are encouraging owners to remove the highly flammable shrubs that are within 5 feet of your unit. The priority focus are the following conifers:
- juniper
- cedar
- cypress
To see how these kinds of shrubs can very quickly “torch” into flames, click here to check out these FireSmart videos called “Will it Burn?” (The first priority FireSmart hazard for us to address is the shrubs beside our units that can torch up under the soffits and thus get into the attics – and start a whole unit on fire pretty quickly.)
I am organizing a work party on Tuesday, October 14 to help with this work to remove shrubs, for those owners who would like help to get those shrubs out from within 5 feet around your unit.
Please let me know the following ASAP:
Who would like help to get shrubs out around your unit (for shrubs within 5 feet of your unit, at this time)? Click here to reply to me (Violet) to let me know that you want help, and please let me know for how many shrubs.
Who would be willing and able to help on October 14? Again, please Click here to reply to me. We will need:
- some people who are able to help dig and pull (to cut roots, help pry shrubs a bit loose, etc.)
- good tools for cutting roots and prying loose the shrubs (e.g. big honkin’ pry bars, an axe that you don’t mind someone using to cut into roots in dirt, etc.)
- someone (or perhaps two people/two trucks so that we can have two groups working) with a strong engine truck who would be willing to use their truck to help pull out shrubs
- heavy-duty towing cables/chain, for use with the truck(s) to pull out the shrubs. (We need heavy duty ones, not just regular ropes.)
If enough people are interested to come help, we may be able to cut down some branches of trees that are coming close to our units, as well. (What we are able to get done will depend on who is able to come out to help.)
