WATER RESTRICTIONS IMPLEMENTED FOR DEEP BAY

Please read the following message sent to us by DBID, as it concerns water restrictions being implemented by the District.

Given what the water table level is at for our aquifer, which is – and has been for some months now – well below the seasonal norm, and the snow pack is also considerably lower than normal for this time of year, at last night’s Deep Bay Improvement District’s (DBID) monthly meeting, the Board voted to go with the Regional District of Nanaimo‘s recommendation for the region and set Deep Bay’s watering restrictions to water conservation level three (see table below for what that means).

DBID has never implemented restrictions before because our water table levels haven’t historically been this depleted for such a long duration at this time of year, when there is the highest demand for water.  Published info will come out in the next pipeline newsletter (July) and should soon be, if not already, on the DBID.CA website. As DBID does not have a bylaw enforcement officer, the restrictions are, in essence, voluntary, but given we are at a stage 1 drought level, we hope the community heeds the warning and acts accordingly.

Since the strata’s address is 5300, please only water on Thursdays.
