As you know Council and its Bylaws Committee have been working on creating a new set of bylaws that are customized to our strata and in line with the revised BC Strata Property Act. What we are proposing includes:
- updating some specifics to conform with changes in the Act,
- removing bylaws that duplicate what is in the Act, and
- moving some items out of bylaws to become policies and recommendations, instead of bylaws.
Our plan is to make a resolution at our Annual General Meeting (AGM) in August to adopt the proposed bylaws, replacing the existing bylaws in their entirety.
In order to ensure that everyone has the time and opportunity to review the proposed bylaws and bring forward their concerns and questions prior to the August AGM, Council is calling a Special General Meeting (SGM) on April 12 at the Legion and using Zoom—details to follow in a subsequent email. Our lawyer will be in attendance via Zoom at the SGM for one hour (only) to address your questions and concerns about the proposed new bylaws.
We have created a webpage with information on the proposed bylaws (see the link below), along with links to both the current bylaws and the proposed bylaws. Because of the limited time with the lawyer on April 12, we ask that you review the information in advance and send us your concerns and questions by April 3, 2022, via email (council@vis5801.ca) so that we can send them to our lawyer in advance and he can have the answers prepared. If there is time after he responds to the submitted questions, we will take questions from the floor.
