I need help – to come up with a good plan – to pull out the big shrubs out around the lower pond! :-)

Hello all –

We need to pull out the big shrubs (willows, and a few others) around the lower pond, as this year’s work to keep the pond from filling in and becoming a bog. (The last two years we thinned the bull rushes, so this year it is time for the shrubs.)  I’ve already been out there pulling out the little alders and a few shrubs that I could take out by hand and with a pitchfork, but the remaining shrubs are too big to do by hand.

I think this Plan will require:

  • a truck, with either a hitch or a winch
  • a rope that is strong enough and long enough to be wrapped around a shrub and hooked up to the truck
  • a driver of that truck, willing to work with me to figure out how to do this!  I can do the walking around with the rope to “rope the shrub”, if someone is willing to do the driving.

The lawns around the lower pond are dry enough right now to be able to drive on, so the truck could drive reasonably close to each shrub that needs to come out.  There are probably about 10 shrubs that ought to be taken out (might be a few more…).

I would very much appreciate some help refining this “Plan”, since I gave never pulled anything out with a truck before eh.  Suggestions please!

And of course I would also very much appreciate some help to put the plan in action, once we have a great plan ready.   This could be fun.  It will certainly be a little adventure 🙂

Thanks!
