One of our owners has suggested that we form our own “Green Team”, right here, at Lighthouse Landing Estates (LLE) and, when Council was presented with the proposal, we thought it was a perfect idea!
What does “going green” mean? I’m sure there are many definitions to be found but here’s one that sums up the basic concepts:
“Going green means to live life, as an individual as well as a community, in a way that is friendly to the natural environmental and is sustainable for the earth. It means contributing towards maintaining the natural ecological balance in the environment, and preserving the planet and its natural systems and resources. It also means taking steps, whether big or small, to minimize the harm you do to the environment (including the carbon footprints you leave behind), as a result of inhabiting this planet.”
Jane Rothmund (Unit#27) thinks there are many things that we can be doing, both individually and as a group, to make LLE greener. She says,
“What I see the committee doing is brainstorming as many green ideas as we can, sharing those ideas with the whole community and asking individuals to choose one or two things that they can do differently each year so that we gradually become greener. Then the committee could choose a community project or two that we could all work towards. The committee would then come up with a plan(s) to implement the project(s). Maybe have a five year plan?”
Would you like to get involved, share and come up with some ideas and pitch in with Jane and your other LLE neighbours who want to help make a difference? If so, please RSVP to me by May 20th at ViceChair@vis5801.ca so I can get the wheels in motion. I will facilitate getting the group up and running and, as a member, will act as the liaison between the LLE Green Team and Council.
Thank you!
