This is the beginning of Fire Prevention Week and your Council wants to remind you that there are things we can do to ensure fire safety at LLE. These are ways you can help:
1. Check your fire extinguishers for charge and make sure everyone in the house
knows how to use the device,
2. Make sure you have an escape route planned for each area of the house,
3. Check your smoke detector making sure the batteries are functioning and
that the device works when exposed to smoke. To help with this strata council
has purchased a spray can of “Smoke Test”, an easy to use product that
simulates smoke. and should set off detectors. This material is stored in the
maintenance shed and can be signed out like maintenance equipment. Please
return it to the shed ASAP so everyone has a chance to check their smoke
detectors. Any smoke detectors more than 10 years old must be replaced.
4. This is also a good time to have your furnace, heat pumps and fireplaces
serviced for the winter.
Council is arranging to have all dryer vents cleaned to help prevent the possibility of fire due to lint buildup and heat. This should also improve the energy efficiency of your dryer.
Everyone have a good Fire Prevention Week and take advantage of it to attend to the fire safety issues described above.
Thanks
Bob Mathieson, Maintenance
