Hi all –
Here is the info from the RDN website, about what can now go in your green garbage bin (organics cart): https://www.getinvolved.rdn.ca/expanded-organics
Beginning on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, residents who receive RDN curbside collection service can top up their organics cart with leaves, grass and light yard trimmings! Expanding what can go in our organics cart beyond just food waste will provide a more accessible way to dispose of light yard waste.
This program will utilize your existing 100-litre green-lidded organics cart. In 2024, staff will consider alternative cart sizes based on program participation and material volumes.
- Ensure all yard trimmings are no larger than 1.5 cm (0.5 inches) in diameter and no longer than 60 cm (2 feet) in length.
- Keep the lid completely closed.
- If the cart is over 75% full, leave the cart in the unlocked position.
- Follow standard RDN curbside cart set-out guidelines:
- Roll your carts out between 5-8am on your scheduled collection day.
- Place your carts as close to the roadway as possible, without blocking traffic sidewalks, and bike lanes.
- Leave at least 1 meter (3 feet) of clearance between the carts and any obstacles, such as parked cars, poles, fire hydrants, etc.
- Leave 3 meters of clearance above the carts.
- All material must be placed in the cart with the lid completely closed.
- Make sure the arrows on the cart lid are pointing toward the street.

Please use this new option from RDN for disposing of your yard waste, as much as possible.
If you have additional yard waste, please follow these guidelines for what you can put in our strata’s yard waste area behind the little fence (and… what NOT to put there):
Do NOT put this in that yard waste area as this stuff is too heavy (you will need to dispose of these materials yourself):
- sod
- dirt from plant pots
- dirt, gravel, etc.
You can put this in the yard waste area:
- leaves, clippings (but … you could put these in your green bin, eh…)
- branches (please put the branches further back in that area, and the small stuff up front)
- plant stalks – but without the dirt!
Paul has offered to take away the yard waste behind the fence in his truck for over the next 6 months, to see how that goes. (Thank you, Paul!)
Our mowers can no longer take our yard waste like they used to as a special convenience for us, because the place they took it to is no longer available.
thanks –
Violet (LLE Council, Landscaping)
